Shoulders and the Takeaway -- Golf swing Turning Tip

The level shoulder turn of the modern golf swing promotes crowding the swing space that I refer to as the Turning Lane. The Turning Lane is the area between an imaginary line running through the balls of your feet and a parallel line running through the ball and target. With a level shoulder turn, the left shoulder has a tendency to invade the turning lane and then must get out of the way in order to strike the ball. To avoid this situation, draw an imaginary line across the front of the shoulders and keep your left shoulder behind the line on the takeaway. It may seem impossible to keep the left shoulder behind the line but it is actually quite easy. If you pull back with the right shoulder it will vacate the space needed for the left shoulder to slide over and take its place. With the left shoulder behind the line, you are now in position to generate some serious power.

The Turning Lane can be easily visualived by looking at the photo in the Power Factor - Power explained by Steve
