Golf Ball Position
This should simplify how you determine ball position.
The "Right Hip Rule" and "Lead side Positioning"
The Right Hip Rule is simple, your swing arc tends to bottom
out wherever the right hip is. If you don't get off your right side, your
arc will bottom out at a point, even with your hip. From then on, the club
head will be on its way up. Not a good situation if you have a centered ball
position. A shallow arc would cause a thin or topped shot, while a deeper
arc would hit the ground before the ball. If you wish to hit the ball and
then the ground, you will want your hip past the ball at impact.
Lead Side Positioning takes the guess work out of determining ball position. Draw a line straight out from the inside of your left heel. If you play your ball six inches behind this line, it should always be six inches behind. With a longer club, the wider stance will give the ball a forward appearance. With a shorter club, the narrower stance will make the ball appear toward the back of the stance. I always like to think of my ball as having a forward position regardless of what it looks like.
