Golf Alignment - It starts with what you see

Eye of the Tiger  Did Tiger Woods lose some of it when he had eye surgery?

"A simple test for the serious golfer"

You could be shocked by the results of this test. What you see, may not be real. You will need a flat putting face, a yard stick and a straight 3 foot long non tapered rod. Set-up the yard stick on edge, so you can see the numbers from a distance. From 10 to 20 feet away, place the rod on the putting surface in the direction of the yardstick. Do not get behind the rod to see exactly where it is pointing. From a normal putting stance, stroke your putter over the rod (target line). Determine which number on the yard stick your putting to. Now you can get behind the rod and see how far off you are. The more off you are, the more likely you will be influenced by this misinformation.
Identifying any problem is the first step to fixing it. The quick fix is to line up to an intermediate target and ignore the misinformation. Many golfers already line up to an intermediate target and are influenced by the misinformation, simply because they are unaware. Often golfers will naturally adapt to these types of problems at varying degrees of success. Having a strong or weak eye can contribute to the problem. Eye surgery can improve your vision, but it can also shift the location you believe you are looking at. Why leave this to chance? See if there is a problem and then decide how you want to handle it, if at all. One option is to train the eyes, which could mean adding a couple minutes of exercise to your daily routine. The rod test can just as easily be a training exercise. Putting on a line also helps.
Visual disinformation is not limited to putting, it can influence all of your shots. It's not how well you see, it's where you see it.
